Phoenix Employment Law Attorney

Phoenix Age Discrimination Lawyer

Chandler Employment Discrimination Attorney

The federal Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967 protects employees over 40 years of age from being discriminated, harassed, retaliated against or wrongfully terminated based on their age. When employers violate this law and other similar protective statutes, employees have the right to seek legal action to protect their job and their rights.

Age discrimination disputes are complex because employers have a range of legal excuses at their disposal for not hiring or failing to promote someone, no matter his or her age. It is the employee’s burden to prove that the company acted a certain way based on age alone. At The Law Firm of Cameron Hall & Associates, based in Phoenix, Arizona, we represent both employees and employers in age discrimination disputes. Understanding both sides of the situation helps us build the strongest cases possible to protect our clients’ interests.

Age Discrimination Disputes

The Law Firm of Cameron Hall & Associates skillfully handles many different types of age discrimination cases, involving:

  • Claims that employees were overlooked for promotions because of age
  • Wrongful termination
  • Unlawful hiring practice
  • Age harassment

We work closely with our clients to understand the dispute and the desired outcome. We carefully examine the situation and advise on the best course of action. We are skilled in both negotiating settlements and taking employment discrimination cases to court, and will proceed in a way that offers the best chance of achieving our clients’ goals – whether that is getting our clients’ jobs back, recovering compensation for lost wages and emotional suffering, or putting an end to the case altogether.

When Applying for a Job …

Applying for a job as an older person can be worrisome, especially if you are worried about age discrimination. Here are a few tips to avoid initial prejudice among human resources representatives and hiring managers:

  • Scan your resume for date references. It is helpful to focus on your experience rather than when you worked at a company. Also, stating that you have a degree is good enough without posting when you received it.
  • Avoid putting your birthday on an application or resume whenever possible.
  • Do not include a picture. Employers cannot legally ask for your picture in the initial application process. They will see you if you are offered an interview.
